IN SLATERSVILLE

Ordained interfaith minister, Natalia deRezendes, offers Spanish and English courses in Toltec wisdom. The word Toltec means “artist of the soul”, and gratitude for life is at the heart of its teachings. While the Toltec culture left no written records, Toltec wisdom is derived from a long tradition of beliefs indigenous to Mexico. DeRezendes has traveled to Teotihuacan on three occasions and works with Toltec wisdom teacher Don Miguel Ruiz. The practice combines Toltec wisdom with modern insights, and people can apply these Universal teachings to find more peace and mind in daily life.

Ruiz is the author of The Four Agreements and its Spanish edition, Los Cuatro Acuerdos. His book seeks to free people from limiting beliefs and agreements they have made with themselves and with others, and he promotes four key points of advice:

 Be impeccable with your word.
 Don’t take anything personally.
 Don’t make assumptions.
 Always do your best.

Toltec is about learning the art of true self-love and teaching this to one another. DeRezendes’ group workshops delve deeper into Ruiz’s four agreements, and she incorporates live music and movement. The sessions help people identify their self-limiting beliefs and how those beliefs were formed. DeRezendes wishes to meet participants where they are, so she can help them shift comfortably toward beliefs that allow for both individual growth and more meaningful and heart-felt life engagement. DeRezendes has studied Toltec teachings in the Spanish language, so that she also can deliver these workshops to Rhode Island’s Latino population. She is eager to partner with groups and organizations to spread this wisdom.

As certified Zentangle teachers, DeRezendes and her colleague Bonnie Luther are offering drawing workshops that promote a relaxed focus and creativity. These Zentangle workshops create a common ground for the participants, because the practice is independent of language, age, political views, religious beliefs or any other category that separates one from another.

The next Zentagle workshop is scheduled from 9:45 a.m. to noon, November 23, in Slatersville. The meeting space at One Voice Studio has a creative and welcoming Mexican ambience. Tuition and materials are $45 per class.

Location: One Voice Studio, 411 Central St., North Smithfield. Contact Natalia at 401-323-7664. Register and learn more at SlatersvilleRIcsl.com. See ads on pages 17 and 29.
