Playing Golf in the Azores

Playing Golf in the Azores

The breathtaking landscape is the perfect setting for unforgettable rounds of golf in an environment of pure nature of the Azores. The Atlantivacations Tours Inc. invites golfers to enjoy their two golf courses, Batalha and Furnas, no rush, in a green environment, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, between Europe and North America, on the island of São Miguel in the Azores, in Portugal.

Batalha Golf Course

Where the green of the land meets the blue of the ocean, this course, designed by Cameron Powell in 1986, offers 27 holes of golf. With its magnificent setting, nestling on the skirts of the surrounding hills and with sweeping views to the ocean, the course has large flowing greens, wide and generous fairways, and sinuously contoured bunkers.

It is difficult to select the best hole—they are all in some ways exceptional—but there is a very special sensation to be felt when standing on the soaring tee B6. The facility opened to the public in 1993 and its sumptuous clubhouse offers a unique setting for weddings and other banqueting events.

Batalha Golf Course is situated on the north coast of São Miguel island, just 10 minutes from the centre of the capital Ponta Delgada. Practice facilities include a driving range for up to 30 players, two practice putting greens, and a chipping and pitching area.

Rental service includes golf cart fleet, trolleys and Rrental clubs.

Furnas Golf Course

A spectacular golf course set in the midst of a powerful volcanic landscape with luxuriant tropical vegetation. This is a truly incredible golfing experience. Furnas golf course is situated in one of the most beautiful part of São Miguel Islands, set above Furnas Valley and close to the beautiful crater of furnas lake, with it’s famous hot springs and Terra Nostra Gardens. It’s 25 minutes from Ponta Delgada, 15 minutes from Caloura, Água d’Alto.

The first nine holes of the course were laid out by MacKenzie Ross in 1936, and represent the first golf course on the island. The holes meander through a landscape of spectacular natural beauty that leaves visitors speechless. Brilliantly extended in 1992 by golf course architects Bob Cameron and Chris Powell, the course now boasts 18 magnificent golf holes and a warm British-style clubhouse.

The course itself is set amid a stand of magestic japanese cedars, and with friendishly contoured greens is quite gentle in nature but is without a doubt a genuine test of skill and finesse.

Practice facilities include 2 putting greens, practice tee and chipping area, and

clubs, golf cart and trolleys are available for rent.
