Flipp Salon and Apothecary is excited to introduce its new wellness staff to the Natural Awakenings community. The all-natural hair and makeup salon, which is complete with a full farm-fresh apothecary featuring 100 percent organic, plant-based and hand-blended herbal cosmetics, first aid kits, perfumes, tinctures, bitters, oils, facial scrubs, serums and masks, will now provide acupuncture and massage therapy. Maria Vanson is a doctor of Oriental medicine and can treat physical and emotional ailments through Chinese herbal consultations and acupuncture services. Chinese herbs as well as ayurvedic-inspired products will soon be stocked at the apothecary. Flipp Salon owner and herbalist Joanna Cassino and Pearl Street Farm’s main farmer/herbalist Jessyloo Rodriguez grow many of the herbs used for the infusions at Flipp. The organic farm is owned by The Avenue Concept and has a quarter of an acre dedicated exclusively to growing medicinal herbs.

Jesse Rosene de Brito is a licensed massage therapist that will be providing a variety of different massage services including prenatal, Swedish, hot stone, trigger point, deep tissue and more. She is also a doula. Hand and foot reflexology is also available by Cassino, who is a reflexologist in addition to her many other talents. Also new to the team is hair stylist and certified clinical herbalist Justine Ring who, along with Cassino, hand-blends teas, tinctures and cosmetics, in addition to providing flawless hair color and style. Also new to the team is aesthetician Sandra Giraldo who does a number of facials, facial waxing and makeup art, and brings her expertise as a nutritionist and herbalist. She owns her own nutrition company where she specializes in preventing and alleviating autoimmune diseases and inflammation. Whether coming in for an eyebrow waxing or a full spa treatment complete with acupuncture, visitors receive a custom-blend tea and aromatherapy to holistically enhance each experience.

“The wellness staff works together to provide a wide variety of services that gently and naturally bring people’s bodies back into balance,” says Cassino. Flipp Salon and Apothecary also serves as a place for education, and provides a full schedule of classes and workshops around the topics of Chinese medicine, natural beauty, nutrition, herbalism, hair and makeup, and more. Beyond that, the salon is an upbeat and positive art space and art collaborative.

“We consider what we do an art,” says Cassino. “Hair is art; makeup is art; herbalism is the art of alchemy, so we have created a space for artistic expression.” The interior is used as a gallery space that features various artists and photographers, along with many locally made pieces of furniture and original mid century pieces, and hosts acoustic shows at night with local musicians. Cassino works directly with the Level Exchange, which is an agency that finds unique spaces for musicians to play at. The space is also open to be rented or shared for other community events.

The wellness staff, beauty staff and Cassino have created an environment that inspires creativity, wellness and a heightened connection to the planet via the beautiful array of herbal products. A blog space with an herb-of-the-month as well as useful information on a range of topics, such as those covered in the aforementioned classes, is in the works and will be available to clients in the coming months on their website Individuals can also follow them for upcoming events and news on Facebook at Flipp Salon-Apothecary, or on Instagram at FlippSalon.
